✍🏼 Writer’s Quotes to Live By
“Everyone has their own path. The choices they've made. How any two people end up in the same place at the same time is a mystery. You get on an elevator with a dozen strangers. You ride a bus, wait in line for the bathroom. It happens every day. To try to predict the places we'll go and the people we'll meet would be pointless.”
― Noah Hawley, Before the Fall
✍🏼 Hello Kitty Coming…
New Line has hired screenwriter Lindsey Beer to write Hello Kitty. This is a huge international franchise that will delve into the story of who we know Hello Kitty to be.
Official plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film will be designed for global audience appeal. (Think Pikachu Detective but on steroids)
Hello Kitty has previously appeared in comic books, TV series, video games and several Japanese-language animated movies, as well as on more than 50,000 different branded products (if you can name it, you can find a Hello Kitty version of it).
✍🏼 ‘Doctor Doom’ Showing New Life
Don’t let your dreams stay dreams, the long gestating vision from Noah Hawley (FX’s Legion, Lucy in the Sky) is here to assure us that Doctor Doom is not dead yet, and that talks have restarted, this time with Marvel Studios. Noah has been trying to get this Doctor Doom villain film off the production floor for more than 2 years, but the impending Disney-Fox deal had presented a daunting roadblock for the production.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley chatted with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige regarding Doctor Doom, and during which time Hawley pitched going even wilder and more experimental than the Marvel Cinematic Universe had gone before.
Hawley hopes, and is pushing for, his version of the ultimate anti-hero story to come to fruition. With so much on his plate, he just wrapped up the last season of Legion, and Fargo on the horizon. He hopes to churn out this morality tale that is hovering in his heart.
Is there a filmmaker out there, that you hope will finish their dream project?…is that filmmaker you? Let me know what the project is.
✍🏼 Back to “The Beach”
Amy Seimetz, the actor-writer-director behind the Steven Soderbergh series The Girlfriend Experience, is currently developing a The Beach prequel series. The 2000 film was based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Alex Garland, it centered around the story of a traveler named Richard who discovers and brings about the collapse of a beautiful utopia in a secluded island in Thailand.
Danny Boyle, the original filmmaker of The Beach states:
“The Beach may come back. [Seimetz] has taken The Beach and made a prequel for television. It’s the same character but it’s set now, so 20 years later—it’s a bit of a headfuck. It’s intriguing when you see it. I’ve read the first two scripts.”
The film, if you haven’t seen it, truly showed Leo’s talent as a young actor, but something about the film doesn’t quite gel for me as a film. It is an extremely gorgeous picture, and hopefully the series will pull more from Alex’s book, and dive into the nature of who Richard is as a person.
