Good Afternoon. Knock out those writing pages, and seize the draft.
Lions and Dragons and Critiques, oh my!
Actor Conleth Hill or better known as “Varys” on Game of Thrones has a bone to pick with the writer’s of the series. The bone is more of a quality issue as the actor has recently complained that the quality of the series fell off dramatically since surpassing the book series in teleplay form. "It just felt like after season 6, I kind of dropped off the edge."
A criticism shared by many, but I don’t know if the criticism comes from a place of art fandom or career gain as he critiqued the use of his character feeling as if he’d been downgraded from a critical character to arriving at the end of scenes just to deliver "weather reports".
"So I thought he was losing his knowledge. If he was such an intelligent man and he had such resources, how come he didn't know about things?" he wondered. "That added to my dismay. It's now being rectified with getting a great and noble ending. But that was frustrating for a couple seasons."
In the end, adding insult to injury, I feel with all certainty that after being disappointed in his characters obvious downplay these past couple of seasons, Conleth wasn’t too happy when his character was executed by Daenerys for disloyalty.
Butch Cassidy and the SUNDANCE Screenwriting Lab
One of Hollywood’s most elite cutoff lists has released with the release of the annual Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs. It’s a badass workshop that occurs from June 20th – 24th in Salt Lake City, it’s basically a sanctuary for screenwriters to learn, be mentored and develop the hell out of their stories using the Sundance Screenwriters Labs resources. If you applied and didn’t make the cut…All’s well, I mean… we’ve got each other and our tears to console us…BUT, if you made the list…
CONGRATULATIONS.
I’m not jealous at all.

Writers Block: When your imaginary friend refuses to talk to you!
Now that we’ve chatted a bit about writers success, please tell me, is there anything blocking your writing creativity?
A study was conducted stating nearly 85% of all writers at one point have reported to have faced writer’s block. To truly get through writer’s block, one must actually GO THROUGH it. Below are the four most common internal struggles facing writers, according to writers. We’ve decided to give you a cheat sheet with the answers.
I’m Not Good Enough:
If not you…then who? With as many tv shows as there are on the air, films in production or projects needing writers, WHY NOT YOU?
What Will They Think of Me?
Who cares what anyone thinks of you, you create art for yourself, FIRST. As long as you enjoy it. That’s all that COUNTS.
What Am I Trying To Say?
That’s for you to sit down and FIGURE OUT. What do you want to leave as art for the future?
Is This Really OK?
Ask a colleague that you trust for very specific feedback and then act on whatever feedback you get.
Confronting the reasons behind the block can help you break through it. With a little insight and a lot work, anyone can become a confident and competent writer. Believe in yourself, and write through the struggles.
We can all agree: Freelancing as a writer at times…sucks, even between submitting tons of proposals, dealing with client interviews, and juggling the workload after submissions….it’s STILL safe to say freelancing sucks. Good thing WritersWork exists.

“The technology available for film-making now is incredible, but I am a big believer that it's all in the story.”
