Hello Drafter,
Remember Paul Bunyan?
The dude in the classic flannel shirt, the muscular dude on the cover of paper towels?
He’s known for cutting down trees.
That’s all. He cuts so well that trees shake in their roots when he walks past them.
When I was a child, the thought of chopping wood down every day was cool.
It seemed simple and peaceful.
It’s just you in nature, with an axe chopping enormous trees down and getting to yell ‘TIMBER’ into the abyss.
I learned that life is very similar to being a lumberjack.
You pick a tree, and you chop away at it.
Hoping one day to knock it down, and hear those glorious words ‘TIMBER.’
That’s all life is about, how many trees, or things you’ve knocked down.
At least when you come to terms with accomplishing great things.
What we don’t realize is the people we admire the most in their lives.
Are the people who chop down just one MASSIVE tree, not multiple baby trees.
We admire the lumberjacks that kept chopping.
Two days ago I watched Serena Williams beat the current #2 ranked tennis player in the world. Serena Williams is 40 years old, and the greatest tennis player in the sport's history.
Man or woman.
Accomplishments are truly unmatched.
She has been chopping the tree since she began at three years old.
Social media has warped our brains into thinking our goals should be instant. We have a goal for 2 months and want immediate breakthroughs.
It’s wild.
Define the enormous tree in your life that you want to chop down.
Let it be a big goal or skill, you want to attain.
Something SO BIG that it scares you.
Once the skill has been chosen.
Pick your axe - this is the mode in which you will choose to chop down your tree.
In the beginning, the tree will feel massive.
It should intimate you.
If you see a way, you can chop this tree down in a year’s time.
The tree isn’t being enough.
YOU NEED TO THINK BIGGER.
Once you settle on one.
Begin chopping away.
See you at Timber,
Jordan “Keep Chopping” Baylor
