Grand Rising Champ,
What does one of the greatest writers have to say about the creation process?
The man, the myth, the legend Alan Moore - writer of DC’s Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Swamp Thing, Batman: The Killing Joke, and From Hell, among other legendary comics.
He was not always prolific.
He once was just a guy on the sidelines - looking in, wanting to become a creator.
Alan said he was 25 years old - took off a year, lived in a cheap apartment, ate noodles, and lived on food stamps.
Alan said he did this, so he could focus on becoming a writer.
So what happened after Alan focused for a year?
Did he crank out masterpiece - after masterpiece?
Nothing occurred.
He finished nothing.
He flickered from project to project.
He finished nothing to completion but had a lot of ideas pouring out of his head.
Does that sound like you?
Alan said the way he could finish a book by the age of 26 was he chose one - committed to one idea.
One concept, and commitment - either he will finish this idea - or retire.
It’s that simple.
The power of one.
Commitment to one pathway.
One plan of action.
One idea.
Choose one thing you want to release into the world - business, book, release a shortened version of it THIS WEEK. If it’s something as complex as a cartoon - get a character bio together (words) with a character sketch.
Create a post of your idea - announce it to the world.
Don’t worry so much about the end goal.
Get something shipped and out into the world this week.
Here is what I shipped.
Over the weekend, I launched the pilot episode of my best friend, and I’s idea.
“Love the Moochers”
This has been a pilot that I have been sitting on for a few months.
The reason I didn’t release it?
Fear.
Once released - it’s open to ridicule, people can like it or hate it, but it’s out to be judged.
Now, I no longer care.
I finished.
On to the next script.
Watch the episode.
Make the comment section full of love or hate.
The choice is yours.
