Writers Guild Agrees to Resume Meetings With Talent Agencies
The WGA & ATA talks have been off by a very far margin, after lines were drawn in the sand and talks were ceased. After six weeks of negotiations, the ATA must’ve listened to a few Drake songs while deep “in their feelings” and reached out to the WGA in hopes of rekindling their fruitful relationship.
WGA West President David A. Goodman announced Wednesday night that the WGA had approved a proposal by UTA co-president Jay Sures to get back to the bargaining table and an offer was made made late Wednesday afternoon.
“Thank you for your offer to meet, which I accept on behalf of the WGA,” Goodman said. “I do want to make clear that we responded on April 12th to your most recent proposal. We continue to believe that there is a deal to be made that aligns agency interests with those of writers. We look forward to hearing what you have to say.”
The talks are set to resume, and Jay Sures stated in his letter “If this dispute is truly about addressing Packaging and Affiliate Production, then we are ready to get back to the table with you.” I hope this is the first real step to a resolution of this conflict, but if it isn’t the WGA can continue moving without agents.
Writers Lee Daniels & Whitney Cummings send for ‘Good People’
Comedian Martin Short is one of the first actors to sign on to the latest creation from Empire co-creator Lee Daniels and 2 Broke Girls co-creator Whitney Cummings. The Amazon series Good People, revolves around three generations of women working in an college ombudmans’ office that navigates the current cultural climate, the concept of feminism across different generations and the struggle to reconcile socially constructed ideas with current ethical views regarding complex issues such as sex, race, class and gender.
Martin is slated to play Dean Ed Brown, the self-involved dean of Sacramento University who has no concept of what is/isn’t appropriate or what is considered sexist. I can’t lie, this is truly up Martin’s alley as he’s great at playing dim-witted and unaware characters.
Depending on the tone of the show will determine if they let Martin Short truly showoff his physical comedy talent. I hope they let him fly like a peacock and get silly.
Wake Up! New Christopher Nolan is On the Way
The man, the myth, the British legend that is Christopher Nolan, has finally announced his latest adventure entitled, Tenet. The secretive film is being described as an action epic revolving around the world of international espionage.
Nolan is best described as a man who takes us places…and LEAVES.
He took us to SLEEP and left us (Inception).
He took us to SPACE and left us (Interstellar).
He took us to a WWII beach invasion and left us (Dunkirk).
Nolan wrote the original screenplay and filming is underway spanning across seven countries. The studio has already set a July 17, 2020 release date for it.
The film is starring John David Washington along with Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Clémence Poésy.
Please don’t take us somewhere else and LEAVE us again, Christopher. (We already have abandonment issues.)
Timothy Olyphant FINALLY Apologizes ‘Hitman’
Do you remember that 2007 film adaptation of “Hitman” starring Timothy Olyphant as the infamous Agent 47? You don’t remember the terrible fight sequences, plot holes big enough to drive a Peterbilt through, and with acting so bad that YOU requested their acting coach for a refund?…So, I’m the only one? The film even received a score of 15% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Oh, you must have had your memory zapped to keep from remembering such an awful memory? (Yes, I said what I said!)
Well, that’s understandable, because during an interview with Rolling Stone, actor Timothy Olyphant let us into his mindset when he took on the film. He took the film because quote “I had a mortgage to pay.”
Olyphant stated that he had just bought a new house when he found out his Western television show “Deadwood” was canceled. Instead of immediately putting it on the market, he decided to be a “glass-half-full type of motherf–ker.”
“What we have to thank for this is the villain in [‘Live Free or] Die Hard’ and a f–king bald head in Bulgaria shooting ‘Hitman,'” he told Rolling Stone. “That’s what that phone call led to. ‘How about the villain of “Die Hard?”‘ I said, ‘Sure.’ And they’re like, ‘Do you want to read the script?’ I said, ‘I get it. I’m in. I just bought a house. Did you not hear? They just canceled my fucking show. Yes, I’ll do it.’ ‘What about this video game adaptation?’ ‘Yes, to that too. I’m in. I’ve got to make up some TV money.'”
For such an amazing game franchise it honestly deserved better than an afterthought casting like Olyphant. This film was ALMOST as bad as Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Max Payne’.
Am I the only one that thinks actors should apologize for really awful performances in movies? (Respond to the email with your answer!)
