Grand Risings,
Nostalgia washed over me as I revisited high school jams and stumbled across Slipknot the band.
On the surface, this metal band looks like a bunch of serial killers (*that’s their schtick) but actually, these dudes play dope pop-infused metal tunes.
I used to listen to“PsychoSocial” on repeat. Their song about the war in IRAQ, our frustrating society, and the overwhelming anger it fills you with.
As a teenager. The angst. I could relate.
I hated the entire high school system.
I just wanted to be left alone to make movies.
I had it all figured out.
We would travel the world premiering our movies at film festivals.
Goddamn, I was an optimist.
Anywho while reading the comment section of Youtube I saw there were so many people in the comments stating how Slipknot had saved their life. Saved them from self-harm, saved them because finally, someone understood them.
Someone made them feel heard.
It was inspiring reading the comments.
The need to be understood and heard is a necessity as a human.
Hell, it’s why I’m even writing this newsletter, I gotta get these thoughts out of my head and you’re here to help.
SO THANK YOU.
Go out today and take note of all the people you have in your life that make you feel understood.
I’m talking about the people who listen to your dreams and support you.
Wish you well.
Give inspiration and motivation.
Be grateful you have their ear.
Thank them.
As a human, you might be lost without them.
If you don’t have any, message me.
You got one now.
I don’t care how much money a person makes.
I care what they make.
Sincerely,
Jordan Baylor
