The PAIN.
Throbbing…
Aching…
Unyielding PAIN…
Have you ever had a toothache?
If you have, then you know from first hand experience that you literally can’t think of anything/one/body else when you’re suffering with a toothache.
From the time that your tooth begins to hurt you’re either reaching for painkillers and/or for your dentist’s business card.
You can try to focus on other things, but all that you can think about is the throbbing toothache that is screaming for (and getting) all of your attention.
The reason that I am writing about pain is that I have just come from the dentist’s office earlier today.
Verdict: I have to get a root canal.
“Damn” I thought, but it’s all my fault for (trying) to ignore it for so long.
I had a cavity that I let turn into a bridge of pain and money. It’s on me, i could’ve avoided this… but now here we are.
I’ve known about it for a while, but I didn’t commit to the surgery until the throbbing was all I could think of.
A pain that you would pay any amount of money to make it stop.
That’s the ‘power of a dentist.’
They catch people on some of their worst days of their lives and make it better.
That’s why people pay exorbitant amounts for dental work. (Or they want to look like movie stars with veneer teeth 3 sizes too big for their mouth.)
*Cough* *Cough* Joe Biden
So, what can we learn from toothaches, you might ask?
Well, there are things in our lives that mimic a minor toothache. A pain that doesn’t hurt us on the surface, but deep down we know it’s causing more damage than we care to admit!
Being people who feel the inane sense of entitlement to instantaneous gratification, creates feelings resulting in jumbled thoughts regarding the future.
Facing a minor toothache before it becomes a huge problem is what will separate you from the people who handle problems versus those who ignore problems.
Just listen closer, you hear it all the time.
“I want to quit my job and go full time with my creative career.”
But ask that person what they did with a weekend full of free time.
They’ll likely respond “Netflix and chilled” or “A whole lot of nothing.”
Summing up to wasted time. Wasted potential.
It’s time to begin drilling into that cavity of life.
The cavity we know if we fill it, our desires will hold steadfast and grow.
I promise you it’s not that hard either.
Take 10 minutes today just for yourself. Sit down and ask yourself to identify the biggest cause of ‘pain and let down in your life’.
What is the thing that can push me towards career success, happiness, love relationships, or health?
Whatever you are seeking.
I promise the answer isn’t heavy.
In fact, you know what the answer is AS YOU READ THESE WORDS.
You just need to take action.
Set your sights on taking small but measurable steps towards the goal.
THIS WEEK.
If you want to be a singer?
Set a goal of writing one hook a day or better yet, how about recording one COVER song on Youtube a day.
Something you can work on, measure and improve.
It doesn’t have to be hard for you, but you can no longer ignore this cavity.
And think about it… it’s easier to give your dreams your attention today, than to get your tooth pulled due to lack of attention a year from now.
