Morning Drafters,
Have you ever spoken with someone without dreams or goals?
Someone that said they really wanted nothing from life.
I have and that was one of the weirdest interactions. It was filled with silence and waiting for my first out of the conversation.
I didn’t believe him when he said he wanted nothing from life. We all want something.
We all have loftier dreams, goals we need to do but we realize that looking at goals can feel like looking through the scope of a rifle.
The target is miles upon miles away.
You aim, focus on the target, and can see the whites of that deer’s eyes, but catching that deer seems impossible. The deer is fast and treading through the grass, sneaking up on the deer, without startling it is next to impossible.
She knows she is prey, but catching that deer is your goal.
The key isn’t to chase the deer.
It’s to ATTRACT the deer.
Put yourself in a position to bring the deer (your goal) to you.
Cover yourself with camouflage, dispense deer feed, or wear deer piss (I seriously heard that helps, not sure if it is true.) but become the type of person that the ‘deer’ wants to be around.
You will be eating that deer in no time.
This week on the podcast I spoke with award-winning TV writer Dawn DeKeyser some of her television writing credits include Ugly Betty, Becker, NewsRadio, Good Witch, The Client List, Samantha Who, and many more.
What kept me going was the idea that I could create my own show, and write in my own voice. - Dawn DeKeyser
Dawn is formidable and a woman who doesn’t give up easily, she has overcome a lot of trials and tribulation.
In the interview, she preached the importance of stepping into leadership, the process of becoming the writer or creator you want to be through ritual and habits.
Remember, if you want to accomplish your goals put yourself in a position to attract the deer.
Don’t chase. Attract,
Jordan Baylor
