✍🏼 Writer’s Quotes to Live By
“I believe myself that a good writer doesn’t really need to be told anything except to keep at it.”
— Chinua Achebe
✍🏻 Y The Last Man is Going the Female Route
FX Networks has named Eliza Clark showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the upcoming series — titled “Y” — based on the graphic novels by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.
Y: The Last Man is a series that has excited comic fans for a while, but has had turmoil residing in development hell at FX. Between creative differences and the original showrunners Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal exiting the project in April, this has been a nonstop developmental circus.
Eliza, who’s credits include Animal Kingdom, The Killing, Extant, and Rubicon, seems to be a great candidate to bring this to screen.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, Clark said:
A decade ago I devoured the complete Y: The Last Man series cover to cover, imagining how it might take shape on screen. It introduced me to the amazing work of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra and the complex, fascinating world of Y. I’m thrilled to tell this story and to be working with this immensely talented cast.
Alright now that that’s been settled, on to the impending apocalypse Y: The Last Man promised us.
✍🏻 From Uber to Paramount
Paramount Pictures has acquired the screen rights to Adrian McKinty’s novel The Chain, in a deal that calls for a guaranteed low-seven-figure payday for the author. An Uber driver until a series of deals for the book changed his life.
Adrian McKinty, was nothing more than an aspiring writer with a dream to publish books. After being evicted from his home, in frustration, he reached out by writing a fan letter to Don Winslow, the author of The Cartel and The Force.
McKinty detailed his love for Winslow’s work, and went on to express his personal guilt by not having achieved success as a writer himself. Don Winslow himself a steadfast and determined writer who didn’t achieve success until later in life, responded with encouragement for Adrian.
Don referred Adrian to Shane Salerno and The Story Factory, and the rest is history as they’ve signed on to rep the author as well as produce the film for thriller book “The Chain.”
That book turned out to be The Chain. Winslow lent this quote for the book, calling it “Jaws for parents” and adding that “it belongs in the elite company of world-class thrillers like Gone Girl and The Silence of the Lambs.”
Adrian McKinty said in an statement a piece of advice needed for writers:
“My story is a story of never giving up,” McKinty said in a statement. “It’s a story about writers helping fellow writers. I hope it inspires other writers who may be thinking about quitting, to never give up. I never imagined any of this could happen, but I hoped it would. I had hope. I am so grateful and I hope my story inspires others.”
The Chain was acquired by Little Brown/Mulholland in another pre-emptive deal, and it became a hot book at Frankfurt that has been sold in 35 countries.
It will be available for purchase July 9th, 2019.
