✍🏻Boy George NEXT UP in the Musical Biopic Wave
The film industry has seen success with Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody movie smashing records (900 million dollars later, Oscar Noms and Best Actor win for Rami Malek.) It’s safe to say we’ve entered the beginning of the “musical biopic” era.
With expectations high for Elton John’s ‘Rocketman’ opening Friday, Hollywood will try to replicate the success, as a new development that 80’s icon Boy George is in development, fast tracked for production.
MGM is set to produce a feature film based on the life of pop singer Boy George with Sacha Gervasi (My Dinner with Herve, Anvil: The Story of Anvil), set to write and direct.
The untitled Boy George film will explore his humble beginnings in an Irish a working-class family, through his rise to the top of the international charts with the ’80s band Culture Club. The larger-than-life George never disguised who he was – a fearless, ruthlessly honest young man with an open identity who was years ahead of his time.
The biopic will be produced by Kevin King Templeton (Creed I & II) and Paul Kemsley. George and Jessica de Rothschild will executive produce.
✍🏻ATA Launches “Agents For Artists” As WGA Wage Battle Continues
The (ATA Association of Talent Agents) has launched a new “Agents for Artists” website to serve as a dedicated information portal for agencies and writers as the ATA’s battle with the WGA (Writers Guild of America) nears the end of its seventh week.
“The purpose of the site,” ATA executive director Karen Stuart told her members, “is to provide agents and writers with quick access to a well-organized, easy-to-navigate resource library that houses all of our information about the state of negotiations, our communications (including ATA member communications, letters to the WGA and media statements), and links to our counter proposal, Agency Standards for Client Representation, news articles and more.”
The two WGA x ATA haven’t spoken face-to-face since April 12th. The launch of this site is to show a representation of goodwill on the agents end. The two sides prep to return to the table as negotiations resume on June 7th.
Let’s get a deal cranked out so we can move on from this standoff.
